THE LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH, APRIL - SEPTEMBER, 11AM - 1:30PM EST, ONLINE

MONTHLY ONLINE MEETINGS / MONTHLY CURATED READING TO YOUR INBOX / SUPPORTIVE WRITING COMMUNITY / FUN

Six months to work seriously on your book or six months to make a start on something, have fun, experiment with your writing and be part of a supportive group alongside other writers. The six months are going to pass either way, and if we’re lucky, we’re going to live them. This is a low-stakes, high endorphins type of workshop for people who want to check in every month, be held accountable by regular deadlines, receive feedback on their work, read contemporary literature, and have a good time with new friends from around the world.

Whether you’re knee-deep in a project already, or drifting between ideas and wondering what to do next, you probably need to talk about it. We’ll meet up once a month on Sundays, share our own work, read short & inspiring texts together, gently make some progress and have a nice time.

This is our most free-form writing workshop to date! As usual, writers of any genre and level of experience are welcome.

  • Every month, you’ll receive a PDF to your inbox featuring specially curated prose and poetry to read and then discuss during the meetings.

  • You’ll be given an optional, achievable writing prompt every month. (If you’re working on your own project, you might want to stay focused on that, but if you need some inspiration, we’ve got you!)

  • You’ll be invited to share new writing with the group in our shared Drive.

  • You’ll be able to give and receive comments on each other’s work. And you’ll get guaranteed feedback from Lucy.

If you ever wanted to join Zine Writing Club or The Chapbook Factory, but you didn’t want to commit to meeting every weekend, then this is for you. If you have already been part of a Zine Writing Club or The Chapbook Factory, then you already know this is for you. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry! It's just a fun opportunity to work alongside other writers and get some words on the page.

If you’re unsure of what you’re doing, we’ll help you figure it out. And if you’re working toward a goal, we’ll cheer you on.

Notes

The first couple of hours of each meeting will be dedicated to discussion of readings and our own work, and the last half hour will be dedicated writing time.

During the writing time, I’ll open a break-out room for anyone who wants to ask a question about their work one-on-one. Or for anyone who wants to use the time to collaborate with other members.

Sharing work with other members of the group (in or outside of meetings) is encouraged, but not necessary.

I want everyone to feel like they can keep their writing to themselves until they feel ready to share it.

If you can't make it to a meeting, no problem. I'll upload the audio and video recordings to the Drive and you can catch up in your own time!

Sign up closes April 18th :) First come, first served.

The Spring/Summer Writing Club is led by me, Lucy K Shaw. Hi. I wrote several books including Woman With Hat, Troisième Vague and The Motion. I started Shabby Doll House in 2012. I have edited and published work by hundreds of writers from all over world, first online, and more recently in books too. You can read a little more about me & Shabby Doll House here, or listen to me talk about it here.
